Realistic website development timelines in Serbia, what they depend on, and why a 'fast website in a week' usually means something is missing.
Standard timelines by project type
- Landing page (1 page for a campaign): 1-2 weeks.
- WordPress company website (5-10 pages): 3-5 weeks.
- Custom website (Next.js, custom logic): 5-10 weeks.
- Online store (smaller, up to 50 products): 4-7 weeks.
- Online store (mid-size/large): 8-16 weeks.
- Redesign of an existing site: 3-8 weeks, depending on scope and migration.
These timelines assume one project running in parallel. If our team works on 3 projects at once (standard), that’s already factored in - we don’t push yours back.
The phases of every project
- Kickoff and brief (3-5 days) - intro call, gathering materials, sitemap, mood board.
- Design (1-3 weeks) - wireframes for key pages, then a Figma design with 2-3 revision rounds.
- Development (1-6 weeks) - frontend, CMS setup, forms, integrations.
- Content and QA (3-7 days) - entering your content (copy, images), testing across devices, SEO basics.
- Launch (1-2 days) - going live on your hosting, redirects if it’s a redesign, submission to Google Search Console.
- Post-launch stabilization (1-2 weeks) - minor adjustments, training your team.
Why your project is running late (90% of cases)
The biggest cause of delays is NOT the agency - it’s your content. If you don’t bring copy for at least the main pages, photos in decent resolution and references for brands you like to the first meeting, the project slips 1-3 weeks waiting on you.
The second cause: too many cooks. If the CEO approves the proposal, the owner approves the design, the marketing manager approves the copy, and each has a different vision and replies late - the project drags on.
The third: scope creep - 'we could also add a blog, and a forum, and another language, and a CRM integration...' Each of those changes is an extra phase, not a free add-on. A clear written proposal listing what IS and what is NOT in scope solves this.
How much you can speed things up
The realistic maximum speed-up is 30-40% if you pay a 'rush fee' (usually +20-50%) and respond to every round of feedback within 24h. Under 2 weeks for a company website probably means a Themeforest WordPress theme with your logo on it - which is often not what you want.
